Care and Prayer Ministry Overview

Organization

The services offered on this web site are only a small part of what our Church does in the way of Prayer Ministry. The Palmer Church of The Nazarene Care and Prayer Ministry consists of five main categories of Service, and this web site participates and aids in the efforts of all those who lead in those categories. Each of these Service categories is referred to as a 'Key', and there are five 'Key-Leaders' that carry out the leadership responsibilities in those Service areas. The Keys are named and designated as follows:

  1. Crisis Care Meal Key
  2. Levite Service Key
  3. Pastoral Care Key
  4. Prayer Key
  5. Follow-up Care Key

Following is a description of each of those particular Keys, the Members responsible for their administration, and the Mission of each of those Service categories.

Crisis Care Meal Key

Those under this Key will be helping to provide meal service for those individuals or families that find themselves in the midst of a crisis situation, such as a family member's funeral, a grave illness, etc., which leaves them unable to adequately care for themselves or their family in this regard. If volunteers who sign up under this Key are not up to preparing food, they will be enlisted to serve or deliver meals prepared by other hands. Grocery gift-cards donated to the Church will be re-issued through this Key Service to those families in need.

When Crisis Care Meal Services are necessary, Irene Nielsen is the Key Leader responsible for organizing the efforts of those individuals that sign up under this Key.

Levite Service Key     (back to top)

This is a Service Key dedicated to those within the Church Body. Jesus tells us to love one another, and what better opportunity than right here at Home, where we can meet the needs of those in our own Church Family. We want to help our single parents, elderly folks, families in need, etc. Anyone among our Church Family needing help with a project should drop a card or note containing their name, a description of their need, and pertinent contact information, into the Levite Box, which can be found mounted on the north wall of the vestibule leading into the Church Sanctuary.

Some examples of the needs that can be met through this Service include, but are not limited to: assistance with basic automotive repair or preventative maintenance, basic home repair or preventative maintenance, etc.

Peter Portney will contact any individual that signs up under this Key to coordinate their efforts in meeting the needs of any Levite Service projects. This Service is open for participation by both Men and Women, so feel free to sign up, as there are projects that anyone with a willing heart can help with.

Pastoral Care Key     (back to top)

Those who sign up under this Key will be interested in showing support and appreciation to our Pastor and his wife by inviting them to dinner, bringing them an evening dessert, serving coffee, or even merely engaging them in a friendly chat session with such support and appreciation in mind.

The Leader of this Key, Barbara Pelchat, organizes this Service so that once, or more, each month someone will act to show Pastoral Care support and appreciation to the Pastor and his wife - esp. for their ministry to our Church - through an act of hospitality or other meaningful gesture of encouragement toward them.

Prayer Key     (back to top)

This Key is all about prayer. The Leader of this Key sponsors a prayer meeting on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm. All comers are welcome. This Key  also coordinates the 24/7 "Operation Rolling Thunder" project that consists of well-planned, earnest, 'round - the - clock prayer for the spiritual growth and well-being of our Valley. Our Church has volunteered to be a part of this project, and has set aside the 4th Monday of every month for its participation. Each person who wants to be involved should sign up to pray for a specific hour-long time segment some time during that day. Each month on the 4th Monday the volunteer is to pray continuously during their particular hour. Prayer - partnership is available and encouraged.

Please contact the Leader of this Key, Kathy McKelvey, conerning any issues for which Wednesday night prayer is sought, and for coordination of your participation in the various Prayer Key programs and projects.

Follow-up Care Key     (back to top)

This Key calls for some form of personal contact to be made with those who have fallen ill, been hospitalized, who are grieving for the loss of a loved one, or who are in the midst of any other crisis where such individual attention is sorely needed. This can be done by post, E-mail, phone, or - especially helpful - a personal visit.

Christine Loyer, the Leader of this Key, also coordinates the Follow-up Care "Prayer Quilt Project".

Lets work together to take loving care of our Church Family, praying diligently for the many facets of its welfare, and, as a Family, support each other in times of need - and, please, don't neglect to pray for our surrounding Community!
